Now we are officially into spring and the grass is starting to grow, the snowdrops have come and gone and the daffodils are flowering in the garden and primroses in the banks. Billy, a yearling, featured in the BBC2 series "A Year on Exmoor" both in the round-up and after his training with Sarah Weston but it hasn't gone to his head too much (though he does notice any cameras around!). He has grown so much since we had him that he is as tall as Merion to whom he was very attached. Merion has now moved on to the Exmoor Pony Centre to begin his training to be ridden and we will bring you news of his progress. We have two horses staying here for a few weeks which has made the transition easier for Billy to get used to Merion's departure and the arrival of his new playmate. Billy has a new little companion, Cocoa, one of this year's foals bought by the Moorland Mousie Trust which owns all the ponies that we foster. Cocoa is only a few months old and is very cute and cuddly; after some careful training at the Exmoor Pony Centre, he is very friendly and happy to be caught in the field and have his headcollar on. We have even taken him out for some short walks on the road and he has not been too frightened by passing cars. A guest view of Walking on Exmoor

| Being within Exmoor National Park we are surrounded by Deer and Ponies. There are plenty of deer around the area if you have the patience and know where to look.

| We are designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of the marsh land next to the river which has not been cultivated for hundreds of years, making it an ideal spot for many rare plants and wildlife, especially the Heath Fritillary, one of the rarest butterflies in this country. The SSSI extends off into the woodlands which, with the help of Exmoor National Park, we are hoping to manage in a sympathetic manner in order to promote the flora and fauna that populate it. We have rare lichens on some of the older trees and the fallen trunks make great homes for all sorts of creatures. Press here for more details. | ![]() |
