Billy Milton

During the latter part of February, we were joined by Sarah Weston and her husband David who were able to start showing us how to train up the ponies properly. One of the youngsters, a colt named Billy eventually stayed here and has joined Robbie and Merion and for a short time we are to have three of them.   billy in the stable yard
In April, or thereabouts, Robbie is going off to his new home where he will in effect move up a class and do more difficult training that we here are not capable of doing. Eventually he will be fully trained and ready to move on into the big wide world.   billy, in the top field with both robbie and merion
What we had not appreciated when we invited Sarah to come was that a BBC film crew was in the process of making a film about Billy with Johnny Kingdom and so we had the pleasure of watching the technicalities of pony training and also filming whilst everybody tried to get Billy to show us what he could do.   bbc film crew with Johnny kingdom and val sherwin

Sarah can be seen on her own site, logicalhorsemanship, should you wish to learn more about the Monty Roberts system of Intelligent Horsemanship. This is a process where, through body language and encouragement, we as humans are able to get across our wishes to the pony without taking his self confidence or spirit.

Billy is part of the Milton herd, he is coming up to about a year old and he has joined us to continue the process of familiarisation and communication with humans. Within a week of arriving here he had made dramatic progress, sufficient that it was decided that he could remain here with us.   close up with val sherwin, billy and sarah weston

So, more photos of our new arrival for you to enjoy.
